The composer, known for “The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma!” and many more, lived there from 1965 until his death in 1979.
As CT Insider reported, Rodgers, the first person to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony (EGOT), moved into a newly constructed mid-century modern home at 4800 Congress Street with his wife Dorothy in 1965. The couple hosted famous musicians of the day, like Leonard Bernstein and Ethel Merman, according to the news site.
On three lots, two of which were purchased and combined with the property by the current owner, you’ll find an office pavilion, a pool house and pool, a heated paddle court, and a stone guesthouse, surrounded by fields, meadows, an orchard, and a pond.
This self-contained refuge offers every modern convenience imaginable, including solar and geothermal systems, a water filtration system, two laundries, slate roofing, heated parking, a dog washing station, a wine room, and a generator that powers it all.
The 9,000-square-foot contemporary-style main residence was restored and expanded to incorporate seven bedrooms with views of the surrounding countryside. High ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass frame the interior space.
A central area radiates out to private sleeping wings to house guests, who can also enjoy a secret theater and a private Moroccan-themed lounge and bar.
