The new program aims to help youngsters understand the dangers of online interaction, through improved digital literacy, while also promoting youth wellbeing through relevant, age-appropriate content.

And as you can see in the image above, a wide range of well-known digital content creators and regional distributors are taking part in the initiative.

As per YouTube:

We are committed to positively shaping the online content experiences of young users, not only by promoting healthy and enriching content for youth, but also actively limiting the reach of low-quality content. This work includes enabling greater access to content that promotes media literacy and digital citizenship, fosters learning in and outside of the classroom, and supports development and wellbeing.

Digital literacy education is a critical element in modern schooling, and should be a foundational focus on any curriculum. Because no matter how you look at it, youngsters are going to be spending a lot of their time online, and with more and more of our daily interactions shifting to online forums, and even more to come in future, it needs to be a fundamental element of our broader informational structure.

As such, this is an important initiative, which could help to put the spotlight on this element, and ensure that more kids are able to access relevant, high-quality information on these aspects.

YouTube says that the collective will collaborate with experts to set foundational rules around what qualifies for its recommendations, while YouTube itself will also continue its work with various adolescent health leaders to improve its own resources and tools on the same.

Again, this is a key element of modern education, and it’s good to see YouTube partnering with these organizations to make it more of a focus.
