Watch LCD Soundsystem Revive ‘North American Scum’ After 13 Years
The band performed the song during a show at the Knockdown Center in Queens
LCD Soundsystem dug into the vault during their show in Queens over the weekend, performing their 2007 track “North American Scum” for the first time since their farewell concert at Madison Square Garden in 2011.
The band, who has been playing the Knockdown Center in Queens for the past few weekends as part of a residency, brought back the Sound Of Silver single after having not performed it live since getting back together.
The track was initially released in February of 2007 as the LP’s lead single along with a video directed by Benjamin Dickinson. The group last showcased it onstage on April 2, 2011, when they were joined by members of Arcade Fire. The memorable moment can be seen in the band’s documentary, Shut Up and Play the Hits.
LCD Soundsystem “retired” in 2011, performing what were advertised as their final shows at Madison Square Garden. The band reunited in 2016 and released a new album, American Dream, in 2017. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the musicians are working on more music, set for release by the time the band plays Primavera Sound Barcelona in June of next year.
In November, the band dropped single “X-Ray Eyes,” but revealed that a new album isn’t as imminent as the Primavera Festival suggested. “It’s the first single of what’s shaping up to be a new album,” frontman James Murphy said of the song. “Don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it. But it feels very good to be putting out new music.”
“No, there’s no finished LP yet,” Murphy added. “But when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting closer and closer to completion. So that’s the news. Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation.”
