‘The Bear’ Actor Matty Matheson Debuts Hardcore Band Pig Pen

The Toronto group also features Alexisonfire guitarist and vocalist Wade MacNeil
Chef and actor Matty Matheson, known for playing Neil on The Bear, announced he has launched a new band.
“A few old friends got together a couple years ago and wrote and recorded 10 songs over 2 days,” Matheson wrote on Instagram along with a clip of a song. “We just wanted to hangout and see what’s up. This is our band. We are Pig Pen.”
The group also features Alexisonfire guitarist and vocalist Wade MacNeil, guitarist Daniel Romano, drummer Ian Ski Romano, and bassist Tommy Major. MacNeil added on his own Instagram page, Just when you thought I couldn’t possibly join ANOTHER band. WE GO AND START PIG PEN.”
Pig Pen will perform their first live show on April 25 at Sneaky Dee’s in Toronto. The band will be joined by Best Wishes and Pluto’s Kiss. Tickets have already sold out, but fans can join a waitlist.
Matteson is a Canadian chef, restaurateur, and actor, and has helmed several restaurants. He joined The Bear as handyman Neil Fak in its first season and has since won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Last year, he released a new cookbook, Matty Matheson: Soups, Salads, Sandwiches.
The book centers on the “iconic trinity,” and includes recipes for comfort classics like the Cubano sandwich and “Everyone’s Mom’s Macaroni and Tuna Salad.” It’s the kind of cooking that’s more in line with the no-frills sandwich shop from The Bear’s first season than the eponymous fine-dining establishment of the second and third seasons. The FX series has been renewed for a fourth season.
