The Battle on Snowshoes: History & Mythology

The latest episode of the Lake George Battlefield Moments podcast features John Eric Nelson, French & Indian War historian and re-enactor, who tells the story (and myths) of the Battle on Snowshoes in March 1758.
This deadly skirmish among British, French and French-aligned Indigenous forces helped establish the legend of Robert Rogers and his Rangers, and served as a sequel to the Siege of Fort William Henry the previous summer and foreshadowing attempts later that year by the British to overtake the French at the Battle of Carillon (now Fort Ticonderoga).
Nelson is a retired teacher from Milford Connecticut, and he represents an officer in the Connecticut Provincial Army as a reenactor. He regularly speaks on French and Indian War topics.
