Sailing Pioneer Dawn Riley at Riverport Women’s Sailing Conference in Kingston

Hosted by the Sailing School at Hudson River Maritime Museum and Kingston Sailing Club, the Riverport Women’s Sailing Conference will be held in-person, on land at the Maritime Museum in Kingston, NY on Sat., March 29, 2025.
Dawn Riley, the youngest and only woman named to the National Sailing Hall of Fame and the international America’s Cup Hall of Fame, will speak at a pre-conference event on Friday, March 28th, that is free and open to the public.
Riley has raced on four America’s Cup and two Whitbread Round the World (now The Ocean Race) teams. She was the watch captain on Maiden, the first all-women’s entry in the Whitbread, and was the team captain of the first all-women’s team in the Cup aboard America True.
Saturday’s Sailing Conference
The annual gathering of sailors and aspiring sailors welcomes people who have not traditionally been able to learn to sail into the maritime community and an opportunity to improve their sailing skills. The event welcomes people of all genders and experience.
The Conference includes a full day of hands-on workshops and presentations on a range of topics. Attendees have the opportunity to select five out of fourteen 60-minute sessions presented by experienced women sailors, with topics ranging from sail maintenance to outboard engine troubleshooting to sailboat racing, diesel engine maintenance.
A Coastal and Off Shore Passage Planning workshop aims to empower you with advice and guidance on how to safely prepare for your next adventure. Captain Stefany Coulter will discuss charting and plotting, researching ports and harbors, weather, sail trim, engine use, sailing at night, and safety measures while off shore
All Conference attendees will be invited to a panel discussion on “The Anatomy of a Great Crew.”
Individual workshops have limited capacity, so early registration is encouraged.
