Rudy Giuliani has sold his Upper East Side penthouse for under $5 million, marking another price cut for the residence once slated to be turned over to two Georgia election officials as part of a lawsuit. As first reported by Crain’s, the former New York City mayor and Trump attorney sold the three-bedroom unit at 45 East 66th Street for $4.95 million, after first listing it for $6.5 million in 2023 and later cutting the price by $1.4 million in March to $5.175 million. The penthouse was among the possessions Giuliani was ordered to surrender in October 2023 after losing the lawsuit. A settlement was reached in April 2024, allowing him to keep the home.
Following the 2020 election, while serving as a layer for President Donald Trump, Giuliani falsely accused ballot counters Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss of tampering with ballots to steal the election, resulting in violent and racist threats against the two women. The pair sued Giuliani and won $148 million in a verdict in 2023, as 6sqft previously reported.
In October 2024, a judge ordered the former mayor to surrender the apartment, a Mercedes-Benz, several watches, a signed Joe DiMaggio jersey, and other valuables. The ruling also ordered Giuliani to transfer $2 million in legal fees he owed the Trump campaign to a receivership controlled by Freeman and Moss.
In January, a judge ruled Giuliani had “finally satisfied” his settlement agreement, allowing him to maintain ownership of the home.
The former mayor bought the pre-war co-op for $4.77 million more than 20 years ago with his ex-wife Judith. The penthouse has a wood-paneled library, a wood-burning fireplace, and a glass conservatory, according to the New York Post.
Records show that shortly before selling the apartment, Giuliani took sole ownership of the unit as part of his divorce settlement with his third ex-wife, Judith Giuliani, according to Crain’s. Her name had appeared on the deed since at least 2003, but he bought out her share last month for $2.5 million. Giuliani now plans to make Florida his full-time residence.
Designed by architects Harde & Short in 1906 and designated a landmark in 1977, the Gothic-inspired terra cotta and brick Fred Leighton Building is one of the Upper East Side’s most iconic addresses, located just off Madison Avenue and a block from Central Park.
