Rudy Giuliani Finally Offloads Upper East Side Apartment
It took a couple of trying years, but former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is cutting his last residential real estate ties to the Big Apple.
The two-time mayor and one-time lawyer for President Donald Trump sold his unit at 45 East 66th Street in the Upper East Side for slightly under $5 million, Crain’s reported. The identity of the buyer was not disclosed. The deal works out to about $500 per square foot.
Giuliani listed his co-op almost exactly two years ago, seeking $6.5 million. He purchased the 10th-floor apartment for $4.8 million in 2002.
His estranged wife Judith reportedly lived in the unit until May 2019. Rudy held on to the co-op after the couple divorced, but Judith received their home in Water Mill, which she then sold in 2021 for $5 million.
Unfortunately for Rudy, Judith’s name was still on the deed as he sought to sell the apartment before he bought her out last month for $2.5 million.
The 10,000-square-foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom unit includes a wood-burning fireplace, a semi-private elevator landing and location just over a block away from Central Park.
The last asking price for the unit was $5.2 million when the co-op was put back on the market in March. Sotheby’s International Realty’s Serena Boardman had the initial listing, but it’s unclear who was marketing the property at the time of the sale.
Between the 2023 listing and the sale, Giuliani almost lost the apartment. He was ordered to surrender the unit as part of a $146 million judgment for the alleged defamation of two Georgia poll workers in 2020, when the former mayor pushed the false narrative that the presidential vote was rigged against Trump.
Giuliani ultimately retained possession of the unit after reaching an undisclosed settlement with the poll workers. He is set to live full-time in Florida, according to his attorney.
