Mt. Joy Return With New Album ‘Hope We Have Fun’

Fresh off a year that saw Mt. Joy sell out Madison Square Garden, the Los Angeles-via-Philadelphia indie-rock quintet will return in 2025 with their fourth studio album, Hope We Have Fun.
Ahead of the LP’s May 30 arrival, the band has shared the new single “More More More,” which follows the previously released tracks “Highway Queen” (also a duet with Maren Morris) and “She Likes to Go Dancing,” both of which feature on Hope We Have Fun.
“‘More More More’ is a song that I wrote while on a cold winter walk with my dog down Philadelphia’s Pine Street during an anxiety attack,” singer/guitarist Matt Quinn told Rolling Stone of the single.
“For me, when I’m unwell, I hyper-fixate on all of my mistakes and imperfections and it can feel pretty hopeless. But I hope this song can be sort of a meditation on forgiving yourself and focusing on creating positive energy in the present and future, whether that’s creating music/art or just being a positive force for yourself and the people you love. In the constant push for ‘more,’ I think we lose the plot and forget to take care of what we have.”
Hope We Have Fun, Mt. Joy’s first album since 2022’s Orange Blood, finds the group tackling subjects like life on tour, co-existing with each other, dealing with depression and more over its 13 songs. Guests include Nathaniel Rateliff (on “Wild and Rotten” and Gigi Perez (on “In the Middle”).
“It’s always hard to distill an entire album since so much of the writing feels like it comes from a subconscious place but now that the album is done, it feels like it’s an album about sticking together. The last few years have been insane for the band. We’ve experienced crazy highs and it’s been really amazing, but you see bands and artists all around us struggling with their mental health and we haven’t been immune to that,” Quinn added.
“We’ve spent three years touring the world with each other, going through so much together, far from home. Out of it comes an album that shows the band’s immense growth through the emotional lens of hope. The hope that we can stick together, that things in our lives don’t fall apart, and that in some distant end, it’s all worth it.”
Mt. Joy will hit the road this summer in support of their album, a trek that includes stops at Bonnaroo, Governors Ball and the Newport Folk Festival, plus iconic venues like Colorado’s Red Rocks, Berkeley’s Greek Theatre, and Maryland’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. The tour will wrap up in late September at the TD Pavilion in their former home base of Philadelphia.
“Playing these massive shows in arenas and amphitheaters is wild! The imposter syndrome has started to fade a bit,” Quinn said. “Combine that with the fact that we have worked hard to make a great album with new songs that we love playing, and we think we’ve got a ‘can’t miss’ show this year. If we’re in your town, come see this show.”
