KPopped will debut on Apple TV+ with Lionel Richie as executive producer
Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion and “Gangnam Style” star Psy will take the stage for a new competition series titled KPopped, Apple TV+ announced on Wednesday.
The eight-episode show is executive produced by Lionel Richie, along with Megan, Moira Ross, Greg Foster, Miky Lee, Harry H.K. Shin and Jake Hong. CJ ENM’s Ki-woong Kim and Eureka Productions also produce the upcoming project. The steamer has yet to confirm a release date for KPopped.
According to a description of the series, “In each episode, western icons reimagine one of their biggest hits, collaborating with top-tier K-pop idols to deliver spectacular battle performances, with a live Seoul-based audience picking the winner of the best new K-popped song.” Megan is also set to perform her hit track “Savage” on the show.
Last year, Apple TV+ released K-Pop Idols, a docuseries that followed the lives of Blackswan, Cravity, and Jessi.
Richie is no stranger to the world of reality television, and has featured as one of the judges on ABC’s American Idol reboot since 2018. “I feel I can bring a great deal of experience to the table,” he said when the news was made official the year prior.
Back in July, Megan teased a preview of her dance competition series, Playground, which began streaming later that month. The Hulu series was also executive produced by the “Hot Girl Summer” artist, who made a cameo in the trailer, and took place at Playground LA, run by Pussycat Dolls creator Robin Antin and Kenny Wormald, a choreographer who was also in MTV’s reality show Dancelife in 2007.
