Lil Nas X Releases ‘Dreamboy’: Listen

Lil Nas X is gearing up for his upcoming Dreamboy project with two new song releases. The first, “Dreamboy,” arrived on Sunday night, the same day he announced it. The second, “Hotbox,” comes later this week on Friday, March 14.

On “Dreamboy,” Lil Nas X discusses being ready to go after his dreams without hesitation. “I was scared then/I ain’t scared now/I wasn’t ready then/ But I’m ready now,” he raps. “Yeah, I’m on the way/I’m on the rise/On the way, yeah I’m on the rise/Mind your own business/I’m minding mine.”

He continues by happily listing some of his “infatuations,” which include “long conversations,” “cuddling with my cats,” and “boys that have a smell to them.” And notes his accomplishments: “Bitch, I’m still making history,” he sings. The uplifting chorus repeats to “dream on” even when “it all gets rough.”

Lil Nas X teased the song Sunday in an Instagram video post, hours before it officially dropped. The teaser opens on him lighting a cigarette and talking to an audience, lounge singer style. “Good evening, everybody,” he says in the clip. “I would like for you to grab a glass of wine and let me talk to you for a minute.” Dressed in a suit and appearing inside of a pink box, a piano melody backs him as he speaks before he begins rapping a snippet of the track.

In February, he teased “Hotbox” with a video posted on X, which features him dancing along to the song. His website announces that “It’s Hotbox Season” and features pre-save links, which promise “surprises” for those who sign up.

In November, Lil Nas X dropped “Light Again” and “Need Dat Boy.” No word yet on when Dreamboy will arrive in full. The record will follow-up his hit 2021 debut album, Montero.
