How Cody Bellinger fits into the Yankees’ roster makeover

The Yankees’ Plan B continues to take shape.

On Tuesday, they traded for Cody Bellinger from the Cubs, in exchange for right-hander Cody Poteet.

The Cubs also sent along $5 million in the deal to go toward paying down the $52.5 million remaining on Bellinger’s contract over the next two years: He’s due to make $27.5 million in 2025 and has a $25 million player option for 2026.

The 2019 NL MVP gives the Yankees versatility to play either center field or first base, where he logged 22 games in 2024.
