Fanciful Listings Abound in the Tri-State Area
A trio of intriguing homes have found their way to the luxury market this week across the tri-state area.
In Farmington, Connecticut, an estate with seven kitchens, a nightclub, a casino and a cigar lounge is available for $9.9 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. The 19-bedroom, 51,000-square-foot home at 50 Poplar Hill Drive is being sold by investor Casey Askar and his wife, Shera Askar, who bought the place for $2.9 million in 2019.
If the bells and whistles seem special, it’s the prior celebrity ownership that’s a real knockout. Famed boxer Mike Tyson owned the place from 1996 to 2003, after buying it for $3 million. The person he sold it to after seven years? Rapper 50 Cent, who recorded an album in the home’s recording studio.
Sherry Borgeson of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties has the listing.
Across state lines resides another available home with a celebrity history. A three-bedroom house at 196 Furnace Dock Road in Cortland Manor, New York is on the market for $5.5 million, Curbed reported. That’s less than half of its 2018 asking price of $12 million.
Comedian Jackie Gleason commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright protege Robert Cika to design the house in the 1950s. Heidi Henshaw of Corcoran Legends Realty has that listing.
Elsewhere, in Alpine, New Jersey, Avraham Tahari, co-founder of Elie Tahari, is looking to sell his 21,000-square-foot abode at 31 Rio Vista Drive for $25 million, according to the Journal.
The seller is well-known, but the estate is the star of this listing. The eight-bedroom home has both an indoor and outdoor pool, an outdoor kitchen and a barbecue area.
Avraham and his wife bought the property for $4.25 million roughly 15 years ago. Its renovation was completed in 2016. Serhant’s Attilio Adamo shares the listing with colleagues Victoria Adamo and Greg Vladi.
