Erie Canal Amenities Study Released

The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and New York State Canal Corporation have released a study of recreational amenities along the Erie Canal.
The study offers a comprehensive conditions evaluation and long-term plan for recreational amenities like rest rooms, water, charging stations, and storage facilities.
The project team inventoried amenities and collected physical attribute information, took photos, and assessed their condition and general barriers to accessibility.
Over 6,500 amenities were inventoried across the system. Of those amenities inventoried, approximately 25% (1,629) are located on land owned by Canal Corporation.
The study is designed to help canal municipalities, counties, and nonprofits create a consistent and predictable experience for all types of recreational users, including boaters, paddlers, cyclists, and pedestrians, including those with varying abilities.
