Charli XCX Throws a Panty Party on Grammys Stage
The pop star is nominated for seven Grammys at the 2025 ceremony
Brat season continues. Charli XCX pulled out the club classics by performing “Von Dutch” and “Guess” on the Grammys stage.
During the video intro for her performance, Charli teased that she was going to perform the “least Grammy-appropriate songs. Expect to be a little bit upset, honestly.” Her set began as she stepped out of a black van with “XCX” on the license plate. Draped in a fur coat and denim ensemble, the star sang “Von Dutch” in an underground lot. Then, she transitioned to the main stage, bringing out Julia Fox and the Dare — and a whole lot of her friends — to perform her hit “Guess” (collaborator Billie Eilish sang along from the audience) while undergarments were thrown in the air and the Brat star crawled across the floor.
Charli XCX is nominated for seven Grammy awards at this year’s ceremony. She tied with Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Post Malone for the second-most nominations of the night. She is being recognized in two of the biggest categories, Album of the Year and Record of the Year, for her ubiquitous electro-pop masterpiece Brat and its single “360.” Several other songs from Brat received various nominations: “Apple” is up for Best Pop Solo Performance, while the remix of “Von Dutch” was nominated for Best Dance Pop Recording. “Guess,” her collaboration with Eilish, got a nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
The nominations mark the singer’s first Grammy nods as a solo artist. Previously, she was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Iggy Azalea for their 2015 radio hit “Fancy.”
Charli’s Grammy nods sum up her banner 2024 following the release of Brat. The lime-green album cover and its infectious pop songs were everywhere, from TikTok to Brooklyn to the top of end-of-the-year lists, and now the Grammys stage. Since dominating the pop music sphere, Charli XCX has performed Brat hits on Saturday Night Live and across the U.S. with Troye Sivan for the pair’s Sweat Tour.
This year, Charli will transform several stages across North America, including the esteemed Coachella stage, into club dance floors and will be for sure, bumpin’ that. It’s all a part of her plan to spread her hyperpop vision. In May 2024, the singer told Rolling Stone U.K., “Club electronic music is what makes me feel most alive.”
