Albany Film Festival Taking Place This Saturday

Albany Film Festival 2025Albany Film Festival 2025Storytelling in the filmmaking process is the essence of the New York State Writers Institute’s Albany Film Festival taking place this Saturday at SUNY Albany’s uptown campus, beginning at 10:30 am.

This annual spring event is free and open to the public. The festival hosts filmmakers and screens films that explore the craft of diverse storytelling in cinema, foster a deeper understanding of social justice and celebrate the human experience in all its dimensions.

The Festival includes in-depth panel discussions and how-to workshops with writers, screenwriters, filmmakers and film industry professionals, film critics and authors who have adapted their books into films.

Full-length and short film screenings of new work from student filmmakers to acclaimed directors will be shown, along with conversations and Q&As that encourage audience participation.

All day long John Warren, founder and editor of the New York Almanack, will be in the short film screening room showing a selection of short films (each 25 mins or less) in categories that include experimental (10:30 am); animation (11:45 am); horror (12:15 pm); documentary (1:15 pm); comedy (3 pm); and drama (4:15 pm).

The festival concludes with a presentation of the Ironweed Awards for Exemplary Achievement in Film and the Short Film Awards at 6 pm.

All festival events on Saturday – which are free and open to the public – will take place in the Campus Center West on SUNY Albany’s uptown campus at 1400 Washington Avenue in Albany.
