A retro diner opens under the High Line

The Standard, High Line has turned its plaza under the High Line into an open-air retro diner for the summer. As the latest seasonal pop-up at the Meatpacking District hotel, The Soda Shop will serve up a nostalgic experience, with an Americana-inspired design and a menu that includes diner classics, like flapjacks, tuna melts, and soda floats, as well as fun cocktails, like a frozen dirty Shirley and pickle martini.

An 18-foot circular bar with stools anchors the Soda Shop, with old-school umbrella tables around it. Adding to the summer nostalgia, there are interactive lawn games and a Standard Airstream, aka the Hard Serve, that will serve ice cream in partnership with Van Leeuwen.

All summer long, enjoy custom sodas, milkshakes, and diner food, whether you’re craving breakfast (French toast bites, a pork roll sandwich, biscuits and gravy) or lunch (turkey club, fried chicken strips, a sloppy joe hot dog) or something sweet (banana split, strawberry shortcake, hot fudge sundae).

There’s also a pie of the day counter that doubles as a DJ booth. Plus, Moonburger, the sustainable fast-food restaurant from Kingston, New York, will serve up their classic #9 smashburger meal.

Located at 848 Washington Street, the Soda Shop is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
