Light & Wonder Installs First Cashless Slot Machines in Nevada

Light & Wonder is expanding its cashless casino technology, debuting its RAPIDPLAY™ pay-by-bank slot system at Nevada’s Crystal Bay Casino.

Light & Wonder (L&W) first announced its RAPIDPLAY™ cashless gaming solution in 2024. This week, the gaming supplier confirmed that its first slot machines featuring the pay-by-bank technology are officially live at the Crystal Bay Casino in Crystal Bay, Nev.
Back in 2024, Jeff Allen, then L&W’s senior director of product management, explained that RAPIDPLAY enables players to transfer funds directly from their checking or savings accounts straight to the gaming machine.
I think of it as an ATM at the slot machine,” said Allen. “Rather than the player walking over and withdrawing money from an ATM and inserting it into a slot machine, they can do everything right there at the point of play.”
The RAPIDPLAY system is powered by Koin Payments, a leading pay-by-bank provider in the gaming space. L&W originally partnered with Trustly during early development before transitioning to Koin. L&W remains one of the world’s largest gaming manufacturers, carrying a market capitalization of roughly $7 billion.
Pandemic Accelerated Cashless Modernization
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, casino floors operated almost exclusively on cash. The health crisis accelerated the industry’s digital transition, aligning with broader consumer preferences for contactless transactions and leading the Nevada Gaming Commission to update regulations for cashless technology.
With RAPIDPLAY, players simply scan a QR code displayed on the slot machine screen using their smartphone camera. The code launches a secure bank transfer managed by Koin that instantly loads credits onto the machine.
RapidPlay does not require the user to download a mobile app or be a member of the casino’s rewards program. L&W plans to roll out the cashless slots to additional casinos across Nevada in the coming months. Crystal Bay is proud to be the first location.
“At Crystal Bay Casino, we’re always looking for innovative ways to enhance the guest journey. Being the first casino to deploy RapidPlay reflects our commitment to embracing new technology that adds convenience for our guests,” said Eric Roe, general manager at Crystal Bay Casino.
Statewide Cashless Momentum
In July, Station Casinos rolled out cashless slot and poker machines featuring Apple Pay at several of its casinos and gaming taverns across the Las Vegas Valley.
Developed by Las Vegas tech firm Adostics, that system—dubbed TrustedTap—allows players to transfer funds directly from Apple Wallet debit cards to slot machines, backed by responsible gaming safeguards like customizable deposit and wager limits.
