The father of NBA star Jaylen Brown has been charged with attempted murder in Las Vegas, multiple outlets reported Thursday. Quenton Marcelles Brown is suspected of stabbing another man in the stomach in a dispute over a parking spot.
The incident happened at 5:42 on Wednesday. Brown, a 57-year-old former boxer who goes by his middle name, left the scene of the crime, police said, but was located later and booked on Thursday morning into the Clark County Detention Center. He faces one count of felony attempted murder.
Police said the victim of the stabbing, who reportedly is a youth football coach, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and required surgery.
Brown’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Brown is the father of Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown, However, according to TMZ, the four-time NBA All-Star and 2024 NBA Finals MVP “doesn’t have a close relationship with his father and was unaware of the arrest or incident.”
Jaylen Brown has not issued a public statement, and the Celtics have not responded to media inquiries as of Thursday morning.
