The largest estate in Tuxedo Park — a Hudson Valley gated enclave with Gilded Age roots — is on the market for a price that could shatter Orange County’s record.
Renamor, a 151-acre lakefront spread about 40 miles northwest of Manhattan at 120 Ridge Road, is on the market for $29.5 million. It was the longtime home of the late Robert Dow, an Olympic fencer and managing partner at Lord, Abbett & Co., and his wife, asset manager Christina Seix Dow.
Their daughter, Lindsay Dow, is handling the sale through Richard Ellis of Ellis Sotheby’s International Realty, the Wall Street Journal reported. The asking price breaks down to $2,107 per square foot.
The French Provincial main house, built in 1928, spans roughly 14,000 square feet with 16 bedrooms, banquet dining, a gold-leaf-trimmed salon, wine cellar and a wood-paneled library. A converted chapel serves as a sitting room.
Exterior buildings include a six-bedroom 1930s guesthouse, a two-bedroom carriage house from the 1920s and a secluded log cabin overlooking rolling hills. The grounds also feature two pools, a tennis court, a boathouse on Tuxedo Lake, a koi pond pavilion and a 2,000-kilowatt solar array that, along with geothermal energy, powers the entire property.
Robert Dow, who fished in Tuxedo Park as a boy, reportedly jumped at the chance to buy Renamor in the 1990s, though it’s unclear how much he paid for the property. The family split time there until returning full-time in 2016, hosting charity dinners and community events during Covid.
Tuxedo Park, once a playground for New York’s elite, retains its private country club and lore as the birthplace of the tuxedo jacket.
Despite pandemic-era price spikes, Orange County real estate trails Hudson River east-bank markets. July’s median sale price in Tuxedo Park was $1.2 million, according to Ellis.
