London ‘77: A Lost Punk Rock Archive

London 77 Lost Punk ArchiveLondon 77 Lost Punk ArchiveThis Saturday, August 16 at 2 pm, Bronx County Historical Society will host Drew Stone, and Tish and Snooky (of Manic Panic) at the Museum of Bronx History for a book talk “London ‘77: The Lost Archive,” look at a musical era that changed the face of modern music.

Buried and forgotten for more than 45 years, vivid photos by photographer Gregory Rudolph Smith have been rediscovered. For eighteen months in 1977 and 1978, Smith documented the golden age of the Punk era in London.

Seen for the first time, photos of Adam and The Ants, Generation X, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Crass, X-Ray Spex, The Slits and many others are documented.

Curated by filmmaker, musician, and Bronxite Drew Stone, this almost forgotten archive is a rare glimpse into this vibrant time of the embryonic movement.

This book talk is in support of “Uptown Rumble: Heavy Music in The Bronx,” an exhibit currently on display at the Museum of Bronx History and is part of The Bronx Punk Rock Summer Book Club.

If you would like to join the Summer Book Club club and receive copies of London ‘77: The Lost Archive and Lost Indignation (a book talk is also planned for September 6, 2025), visit https://bronxhistory.org/punkrock. Those who are not members, however, are welcome to attend.

Attendees to the August 16th program are encouraged to bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs, as the event will be held on the grounds of the Museum, weather permitting.

The Museum of Bronx History stands in a quiet residential neighborhood at Bainbridge Avenue and East 208th Street, a short walk from Montefiore Medical Center. The Bronx County Historical Society Research Library and The Bronx County Archives are less than a block away.
