‘Negro Motorist Green Book’ Sites in Buffalo

negro motorist green booknegro motorist green bookThe Green Book Sites Initiative is an ongoing project dedicated to identifying, documenting and preserving the sites and legacies of the Negro Motorist Green Book, a guide for Black travelers during the era of segregation.

These initiatives, often led by state historical commissions, universities, or preservation groups, use the original Green Book guides to find historically significant sites like businesses and lodging, and work to tell their stories through research and mapping.

2025 Cornell High Road Scholar Jakob Saeli will share his research from his contribution to the Green Book Sites Initiative. He’ll delve into the history and significance of the Green Book, highlight existing Green Book sites in Buffalo, NY, and unveil a newly updated map and photographs documenting these important locations.

This presentation is presented online on Zoom by Preservation Buffalo Niagara. Registration is required here.
