Vitamin Shoppe Founder Asks $89M for Sagaponack Home

The most effective vitamin to boost Jeffrey Horowitz’s spirits may be the one willing to shell out nearly $100 million for his Hamptons home.
The Vitamin Shoppe founder and his wife are looking to sell their Sagaponack compound for $89 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. The two-parcel listing can also be separated: 21 Fairfield Pond Lane for $75 million and 407 Fairfield Pond Lane for $15 million.
The listing of the parcel with the home breaks down to $8,333 per square foot.
The Horowitzes purchased the three-and-a-half-acre property in the mid-1990s for $2.7 million. They built the estate, which was completed in 1998.
This year, the Horowitzes tried to move the property off-market for $125 million but failed to land a buyer.
The eight-bedroom main home spans 9,000 square feet. The property features an outdoor pool, a videogame arcade and private access to the beach, including 200 feet of direct ocean frontage.
The cheaper parcel includes a nine-hole golf course that overlooks Fairfield Pond. There’s also an opportunity to build a guest house or even a second primary residence.

The Horowitzes decided to sell because their children are all grown up. They also have homes in New York City and on Fisher Island in Florida; five years ago, Horowitz was one of a group of homeowners who sued developer Fisher Island Holdings, two related entities and the Fisher Island Community Association, alleging a planned development threatened access to a third ferry landing used for emergencies.
Horowitz founded The Vitamin Shoppe in 1977 and ran it for a quarter-century, selling it to Bear Stearns in 2002 for $300 million. He also served as an executive of Vitacost.com, a retailer acquired by Kroger a decade ago.
In the second quarter, Hamptons homes sold for a median $1.9 million, in line with last year’s second quarter, according to William Raveis Real Estate. The amount of sales, however, increased by 15 percent.
