An adult eagle was perched on a dead branch and the nest was gone.

After a closer look, she found a dead eaglet on the ground and saw the adults circling overhead.

The volunteer contacted Environmental Conservation Police Officer (ECO) Jennifer Okonuk, who came out to the eagle’s nest and luckily found the second eaglet alive nearby. After receiving help capturing the eaglet from Adirondack Raptors, it was transferred to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for evaluation. Unfortunately, this is the third time this eagle pair has had their nest collapse in different trees in the area.

Although the eaglet had a broken wing, it is doing well. After rehabilitation the plan is to return the eaglet to a platform nest in the area. The hope is that the parents will resume caring for it.

If you find injured wildlife, please contact an ECO or a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
