New York isn’t known for being a bargain, but a new hotel that opened this spring is bringing affordable lodging to one of Manhattan’s most desirable downtown neighborhoods. A unique concept hotel called Now Now NoHo offers sleeper-cabin-style rooms designed for solo travelers, “inspired by the efficiency of Japanese capsule hotels, the romance of European train cars, and the communal vibe of boutique hostels.” The single-occupancy cabins start at $125/night.
“Dovetail + Co. wanted to create a hotel that kept up with the hustle of New York City – with a concept that offers autonomy, accessibility, and just enough room to rest and recharge before heading out into the city,” a spokesperson said.
“Now Now NoHo was built to meet the needs of the modern solo traveler: someone who values both independence and interaction, and who craves substance over square footage.”
The cabins are decorated in a mod, kitschy style that harkens back to the days of the Orient Express. If the Pod Hotel and The Jane combined for this generation of travelers, this feels like what they’d come out to be.
There are “cozy” and ADA cabins, measuring just over 32 square feet, as well as larger “Now of Never” cabins at 53.8 square feet. Among the amenities are a Brooklinen robe, earplugs, an eye mask, and a sound machine.
Guests can pair their stay with additional amenities like Fuji Instax cameras, Nintendo Game Boys, Apple iPads, Solawave Red Light Therapy Masks, and more.
The rooms all utilize the stylish shared bathrooms designed in green and purple with an Art Deco vibe. There’s a women+ floor designated for women and non-binary guests.
The lobby, with its striped arches, is reminiscent of Arabic architecture and feels a world away from Noho. Whimsical artwork, greenery, and beautiful tiling bring an air of luxe to the small space.
“The design – led by Islyn Studio – draws from a blend of global travel inspirations that reflect the ethos of both Islyn Studio and Dovetail + Co: exploration, curiosity, and surprise. The lobby evokes a sense of movement and wonder, layered with imaginative textures and immersive art moments,” a spokesperson said.
Located at 388 Bowery, Now Now NoHo envisions the guests at this hotel having an “independent spirit.” It aims to attract “the wanderer who craves connection without convention. The guests are creatives, professionals, explorers, and students of life – people who travel with curiosity and courage.”
Rooms at the Now Now Hotel start at $125 a night, a rarity for the city, especially in a trendy neighborhood.
NYC hotel prices and availability have been making headlines as they have been used as a haven for migrants and the city’s unhoused population.
In a November article titled “Why Hotels in NYC Are More Expensive Than Ever,” Newsweek reported that “in October (2024), the average hotel room price in the city soared to $388 per night — a 7 percent increase from the 2023 average….Experts cite several factors driving the lodging crunch: the city’s use of hotels as migrant shelters, the crackdown on short-term rental platforms like Airbnb and a surge in travel demand.”
According to the report, at that time, one in every five NYC hotels was being used as a migrant shelter. Last week, the city closed the arrival center for migrants at the Roosevelt Hotel, “a once-grand Manhattan hotel that had become an emblem of the city’s fraught efforts to manage the flood of new migrants when it opened two years ago,” as the Associated Press reports.
