The 49th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks return to the East River on Friday, setting the sky ablaze with a mesmerizing display of color. This year’s show will feature over 80,000 shells launched from four barges surrounding the Brooklyn Bridge near the South Street Seaport, with many public viewing spots available for a prime view. To help New Yorkers secure a front-row seat to the show, Mayor Eric Adams announced this week that the city will give away 100,000 tickets to designated sections of Pier 16 and Pier 17 and Brooklyn Bridge Park. The tickets will be available online starting at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, on a first-come, first-served basis.
The city is upping the number of free tickets it’s giving away tenfold; last year, there were just 10,000 free tickets available.
“Every New Yorker deserves a chance to celebrate under the sparkle of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and this year, 100,000 lucky residents will have front-row access to one of the city’s most iconic events as our city celebrates its 400th anniversary this year and we get ready to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary next year,” Adams said in a statement.
“Whether you’re watching from Brooklyn Bridge Park or the piers at The Seaport in Manhattan, our administration is making sure this celebration is for everyone. I can’t wait to join hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors as we light up the night and honor America’s birthday right here in the greatest city in the world.”
There is a four-ticket limit per person for those selecting a viewing zone in Brooklyn Bridge Park, and a two-ticket limit for the South Street Seaport’s Pier 16/17 area. Entry to these locations requires a ticket, and guests must arrive between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Ticket holders arriving after 8:30 p.m. will not be admitted.
Brooklyn Bridge Park will be a fully ticketed viewing area, with admission limited to guests with a ticket. Those without one can still catch the show from sections of the FDR Drive.
If you act fast and text “FIREWORKS” to 917-909-2288, the mayor is giving the first 2,500 texters four free tickets each before the general public release.
Entry points for the general public viewing include:
- Montgomery Street and Madison Street
- Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place and Brooklyn Bridge On/Off Ramp
- Broad Street and Water Street
An ADA-accessible viewing area will also be available in Manhattan at Murry Bergtraum Field, with entry at Pike and Cherry Streets.
On Friday, July 4, the Macy’s fireworks show is set to begin at 8 p.m. This year’s display features 11 new effects—including crackling crown jellyfish, atomic rings, yellow and green sunbursts, strobing lemon cascades, comet fans, and more—in 30 different colors, according to Macy’s.
Providing a sonic backdrop to the festivities, live performers will include Ava Max, Eric Church, the Jonas Brothers, Keke Palmer, Lenny Kravitz, and Trisha Yearwood, with a score produced by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and James Poyser. Ariana DeBose will host the event.
