Crossroads of Rockland History Podcast News

crossroads of rockland historycrossroads of rockland historyOne of the many podcasts we announce at the New York Almanack, and have since 2017, is Crossroads of Rockland History, hosted by Clare Sheridan and presented by the Historical Society of Rockland County.

In May of this year, the Historical Society learned that the local radio station where the podcast was produced and aired, WRCR 1700 AM in Haverstraw, was sold, and that local programming, like Crossroads, would no longer be broadcast.

Undaunted, the Historical Society has now announced that it will continue with Crossroads as a podcast streaming on all major podcast platforms with episodes available on the third Monday of every month, and announced on the Almanack as well.

On the June, 2025 episode Crossroads revisited an earlier interview with Virginia Norfleet, founder of the Haverstraw African American Connection, an organization that sponsors the annual Haverstraw Juneteenth Celebration.

Norfleet was also instrumental in the founding of the African American Memorial Park in Haverstraw and was also the 2019 recipient of  the Historical Society’s Margaret B. and John R. Zehner Award for contributions to the county’s history.

You can listen to interview with Norfleet here.

Haverstraw’s Juneteenth celebration will take place this year over three days:  June 19, 20 and 21.  Learn more about the event here.
