It seems to have been forgotten, or ignored, but the vast majority of Americans have an immigrant family history story – often of struggle and sacrifice. New York Almanack wants to publish them. In 300 words or less, tell us the story of your immigrant ancestor(s) and their earliest experiences in New York and we’ll share them with our readers. Here’s how:

Don’t make it political. Think of this as an oral history of sorts, like an interview of you about your immigrant ancestors.
Tell us at a minimum who they were, where they came from, what they did, and more or less when.
Avoid the “right way” trap. The Immigration Act of 1924 was the first U.S. law requiring non-US citizens to get a Visa, before then, it wasn’t necessary.
Stick to 300 words or less.
