Ten new episodes of History on the Road, hosted by historian Don Rittner and theaterical director Justyna Kostek focus on the natural and human history of Warren County, New York.
History on the Road features Rittner and Kostek traveling the earliest highways of America, stopping at the historic communities along the way, interviewing historians and experts about their community, and trying to solve some history mysteries along the way.
This season includes episodes on the Battle of Lake George, the Champlain Canal and its Feeder Canal, lost ski resorts, one of America’s oldest dude ranches and rodeo, famous 19th-century opera singer Marcella Sembrich, the Queensbury “Vampire,” the history of Lake George Village, the abandoned village of Graphite, NY, and “Bronco” Charlie Miller, one of last of the Pony Express riders.
The duo explores the communities in a classic historic car to add to the look and feel of the adventure. One of the goals of the series is to show that major historical events and fascinating people are not just confined to large urban areas, but rural areas and small villages also had people who made major contributions to the American experience.
“What is remarkable about Warren County is that its residents, elected officials, and business community appreciate the rich and diverse history of the county. Many communities do not,” Rittner told the New York Almanack. This season was financially supported by Warren County.
“We are hoping to do more episodes in the Adirondacks as we just scratched the surface,” Rittner said.
