Chipotle fans call chain ‘wasteful’ after recent price hike

Fans of a favorite fast food chain are bitter over the restaurant’s price hikes.

Chipotle frequenters are now vowing to swear off the fast-casual Mexican grill after the company announced a price increase of approximately 2% on its menu offerings nationwide to “offset inflation.”

But the eatery’s regulars are not pleased by the soaring costs of their go-to burrito bowls, taking to Reddit to express their frustration. Some even planned to stop wasting money on the “flavorless” food, vowing to dine at competing restaurants instead.

The rising cost of menu items at Chipotle is driving customers away, according to a Reddit thread.

“I think this might be the one for me lol. Something about raising it from where it already is right now just doesn’t feel worth it in a way the other increases didn’t,” one user wrote.

“The idea of spending even more money than now for bare-bones chicken with water just feels gluttonous and wasteful compared to going somewhere else or just eating at home.”

“They’ve already priced me out,” another chimed in.

“I barely go anymore,” someone else admitted. “Used to love Chipotle.”

“I prefer Moe’s anyway,” said another.

“I’m never impressed by the food at Chipotle,” one critic commented. “The meat is always flavorless, the beans are super bland, the burrito is over 15 dollars where I’m at and if you have a partner that outing turns into 30 bucks easily. Such a waste of money for the quality of the product.”

“Chipotle was the place retail workers would go to feed themselves working in strip malls,” reminisced someone else. “Now, they can’t even afford it. Where does one go to eat on a 30-minute lunch break making minimum wage??”

The backlash follows customer outcry over shrinking portion sizes at the chain despite Chipotle’s denial of the alleged skimpy servings.

Last month, Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright claimed that patrons on social media appeared to be “really excited about portioning,” a “reverse” from what was seen earlier in 2024.

“We know we’re delivering value for the consumer, especially in this really tight environment, and we’ll continue to lean into that,” he said at the time.

The company’s price hikes come amid a high cost of living nationwide, but particularly in the Big Apple, where the cost of tuition, groceries, goods and more are soaring faster than some other major metropolitans, according to a new report.

“Many people talk to me about the added stress of making ends meet and even enjoying simple things such as a cup of coffee,” NYC-based psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert previously told The Post.

“What was once a $3 indulgence is now close to $4 and at some independent coffee shops, well over $4.”
