A penthouse in the West Village listed for $87,500,000 has found a buyer, potentially becoming the most expensive apartment ever sold in downtown Manhattan. As first reported by The Real Deal, the duplex apartment at 140 Jane Street, a boutique condominium currently under construction, measures roughly 9,500 square feet and features six bedrooms and seven baths. If the home fetches the asking price, it would be the priciest residential property sold in the area, beating out Jeff Bezos’ $80 million condo buy in 2019.
The penthouse has a sprawling double-height living room, a wrap-around private terrace that measures over 2,300 square feet, and three balconies. Amenities at the building include a porte-cochère, parking garage, lap pool, private park, and a full-time doorman.
According to the latest Olshan luxury market report detailing contracts signed in Manhattan over the last week, the parties to the deal signed a non-disclosure agreement, so the buyer has not been identified.
The sale follows several huge deals south of 42nd Street, in line with the trend of New York’s richest residents moving downtown. In March, a five-bedroom duplex at 150 Charles Street sold for $60 million. Last year, a combination townhouse on West 11th Street sold for $72.5 million.
In June, 6sqft reported on an $80 million penthouse listed at the luxury condo 80 Clarkson Street, which has been quietly selling homes off-market.
In 2019, Jeff Bezos set the current record for the largest deal below 42nd Street. The billionaire paid $80 million for a penthouse and two units below it at 212 Fifth Avenue.
Developed by Aurora Capital and designed by BKSK Architects and Leroy Street Studio, 140 Jane Street rises 11 stories and has 14 apartments. Originally, there were 15 total units, but two were combined.
According to Crain’s, 13 of 14 units are now under contract.
