$60M West Village condo is priciest ever sold in downtown Manhattan

An apartment in the West Village has sold for $60 million, becoming the most expensive condo ever sold in downtown Manhattan. The five-bedroom duplex at 150 Charles Street, a 15-story full-service building on the Hudson River, fetched about double what the prior owners paid.
Financier Harsh Padia and his wife, designer Purvi Padia, paid $29.1 million for the apartment in 2016. As first reported by the Wall Street Journal, the deal closed last week in an off-market transaction.
The 9th-floor apartment includes a large terrace with river views, five bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a sculptural spiral staircase. The well-designed space was featured in an Architectural Digest article last summer.
The sale marks the most expensive condo below 14th Street, surpassing billionaire Robert F. Smith’s $59 million purchase at The Getty building in Chelsea in 2018, but falling short of a Greenwich Village townhouse that sold for $72.5 million last year.
Peter Zaitzeff of Serhant and Jim St. André of Compass represented the sellers. The buyer was represented by Eric Brown and Zeve Salman of Compass.
Developed by the Witkoff Group, 150 Charles Street has 91 apartments and interiors by Alan Wanzenberg. Amenities include concierge service, a fitness center, and a courtyard. The building has attracted A-listers like Jon Bon Jovi and Ben Stiller.
The luxury market has gotten off to a strong start in 2025. Media executive Byron Allen sold his condo at 220 Central Park South for $82.5 million, the priciest deal of the year so far. The all-time record for New York City remains Ken Griffin’s $238 million penthouse at 220 Central Park South.
